1. Only senior citizens can get Alzheimer’s. This is not true; out of the 5 million people with Alzheimer’s about 200,000 of those people are diagnosed early onset. Early onsets are people who are diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in their 40s or 50s.
2. Alzheimer’s is not fatal. This is not true; about 500,000 people die every year due to the decline in their body that Alzheimer’s creates.
3. Alzheimer’s affects men and women equally. Not true; women make up 2/3 of Alzheimer’s cases and also carry the burden of caring for others with it. 60% of caregivers are women.
There is no cure for Alzheimer’s disease but there are some things that can help with your brain health and slow the progression. Things like exercise, a healthy diet, socializing and stimulating your brain to learning new things can really help your brain out in the long run.
