Basic Questions

What is Walk to End AlzheimerΓÇÖsΓäó?

The Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s is the nation’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer care, support, and research.  Since 1989, we’ve mobilized millions of Americans in the Alzheimer’s Association Memory Walk®; now, we’re continuing to lead the way with the Walk to End Alzheimer’s.  Together, we can end Alzheimer’s—the nation’s sixth-leading cause of death.

How much does Walk to End AlzheimerΓÇÖs raise today?

All 13 of the walks our Chapter hosted in the Houston & Southeast Texas region raised over $1,140,000 in 2012.

What happens to the funds raised at Walk to End AlzheimerΓÇÖs?

Funds raised at Walk to End Alzheimer’s support local care, support, and research programs of the Alzheimer’s Association Houston & Southeast Texas Chapter.  Funds also go to important research and advocacy work—both locally and nationally.

How can I participate in the Walk?

You can participate in the Walk as an individual or as a team.  Either way, you can ask your friends and family for contributions to sponsor you.  We ask every walker to fundraise at least $225.  If you don’t want to participate in the actual walk, you can register as a Virtual Walker and raise funds for the cause.

How do I sign up for Walk to End AlzheimerΓÇÖs?

The Houston and Southeast Texas Chapter hosts 13 walks in the region.  You can register for any of these online by going to: alztex.org/walk.

Do I need to register my children for the walk?

Children who are under 18 should register and have a waiver signed by a parent/guardian in order to participate.

How can I volunteer at the Walk?

You can sign up to volunteer by e-mailing walk@alztex.org or calling 713-314-1340.

How else can I help the AlzheimerΓÇÖs Association?

Visit www.alztex.org/volunteer or calling our volunteer coordinator at 713-314-1383 for information about other volunteer opportunities throughout the year.  You can also sign up to be an Alzheimer’s Advocate at www.alz.org/texas.
