Why We Walk – Grandma’s Girls

The Walk to End Alzheimer’s is a wonderful way to honor loved ones who have Alzheimer’s disease, or those who have passed away.????? Today Lisa Barker, Team Captain of Grandma’s Girls, shares why she Walks.

Grandma's Girls at the 2010 Walk.

We are Grandma’s Girls (me, my sister, and my daughter). We walk because of our Grandma. She was living with Alzheimer’s disease for more than 10 years before we lost her in 2009. This will be our third year to walk.

Unlike many of the other devastating diseases out there, people really don’t know much about Alzheimer’s and make jokes unless they are directly affected by the disease. We walk to raise money for research.

At the Walk to End Alzheimer’s, participants honor their loved ones in various ways. We’ve seen people put different pictures of their loved ones on their shirts, or bring posters with pictures to the event. They can also take a moment with their team before the Walk to acknowledge the people they’re walking for.????? Honor your loved one by signing up for the Walk today!

Email us your story of why you walk and we’ll feature it on our blog! Please email walk@alztex.org and enclose a picture of your team.
